Noon Seminars - 22 Gates (Food

The Neuroeconomics of Simple Choice
Almost all models of decision-making assume that choices are made in two
stages: first a decision value (DV) is computed for each alternative,
then the DVs are compared to generate a choice. We study the neural mechanisms
underlying the first set of computations in simple economic choice situations.
In the talk we will present results from a series of fMRI experiments
that combine tools from experimental economics and cognitive neuroscience
to identify brain areas associated with the computation of DVs.

Noon Seminars - von Karman Auditorium (11:30AM - 12:30AM)
Rosaly M. Lopes, Lead Scientist for the Geophysics and Planetary Geosciences
Group, and Investigation Scientist for the Cassini Titan Radar Mapper
Volcanoes on Earth, Io, and Titan
Volcanoes are common throughout the Solar System and are a major force
shaping planetary surfaces. Volcanic eruptions are one of nature's
most awesome spectacles and can range from gentle effusions of lava
to catastrophic explosive events such as the eruption of Mount St.
Helens in 1980. As we explore other worlds, we come across forms of
volcanism much different from what we see on Earth today, and others
that are surprisingly similar. This talk will focus on the diversity
of manifestations of planetary volcanism, with particular emphasis
on Jupiter's moon Io, where we find more than 150 active volcanic centers
and the hottest lavas known. Recent results from the Cassini mission
will also be discussed. Cassini is exploring the Saturn system, where
several of the moons show evidence of ice volcanism.

Video:
About: Milonga, along with vals and tango, make up the triad of music
and
dance forms of Argentine Tango. Set to a lively 2/4 tempo music, milonga
uses the same basic elements as tango, though the movement is more accented
and upbeat. It is rather a kind of rhythmic walking without the complicated
figures of tango.
Notes: NO dance experience or partner necessary. Tango is danced in close
position with figures that require a lot of pivoting on the balls of your
feet. As such, it is ideal for beginners to wear close-toed shoes with
smooth bottoms -- suede or leather is ideal, hard rubber is ok. Most ladies
wear heels -- if you do so, make sure to choose a pair with straps so that
the heel is NOT loose, this will aid in your pivots.

Come out to Braun pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 PM to 10
PM for a game of pick up water polo! This is a laid back environment,
with no experience necessary, so come out! There will be players from
