Effective Presentations
It has been said that science not communicated is essentially
science not done. Those who communicate effectively are often invited to
give presentations or to write articles to explain their own work or the
work of others. Their audiences may be colleagues or students, or they
may be lay people-the public or the media. This session will provide information,
tips, and resources for preparing excellent oral presentations, including
your required talk at the end of SURF.

The Search for Life in the Solar System
Scientists have long speculated about the possibility of finding life
beyond earth. The three key requirements for a planetary environment
to be habitable are thought to be the presence of water, an energy
source to support chemical assembly, and the presence of an adequate
supply of molecular building blocks. This talk will review
the scientific arguments for finding life on Mars, Europa, and other
planetary bodies. Measurement techniques and scientific instrumentation
that can be used to study planetary habitability and search for past
or present life will be discussed.

Water Polo
Come out to Braun pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 PM to 10 PM for
a game of pick up water polo! This is a laid back environment, with no experience
necessary, so come out! There will be players from Caltech's water polo team,
as well as players who used to play on Stanford, UCLA, and other DI squads.
This is isn't highly competitive, so if you are looking for some water polo
