Noon Seminars - 22 Gates (Food

Speaker: Stephen L. Mayo, Professor of Biology
and Chemistry
The focus of Dr. Mayo’s research is the coupling of theoretical,
computational, and experimental approaches for the study of structural
biology. In particular, on developing quantitative methods for protein
design with the goal of developing a fully systematic design strategy
that is called "protein design automation." This design approach
has been captured in a suite of software programs called ORBIT (Optimization
of Rotamers By Iterative Techniques) and has been applied to a variety
of problems ranging from protein fold stabilization to enzyme design.
Current research projects include enzyme design, protein-protein
recognition, design of calcium-deficient Calmodulin, and continuum
electrostatic salvation for protein design.

Water Polo
Come out to Braun pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 PM to 10 PM for
a game of pick up water polo! This is a laid back environment, with no
experience necessary, so come out! There will be players from Caltech's
water polo team, as well as players who used to play on Stanford, UCLA,
and other DI squads. This is isn't highly competitive, so if you are
looking for some water polo for the summer, this is a good way to come
out, play some of the game, and meet some people around Caltech who will
play with you!
